CBCMaps

We have developed a simple computer app that will allow you to plug your Count Circle into Google Maps, where you can easily divide the circle up into sectors that can be assigned. The circle map then can be distributed to your volunteers. When they travel to their sector to count, they will be able to see their location in Google Maps on their smartphone in the sector in real time. This is great for new participants and new circles where people don't know their areas. This app works whether you don’t divide up your circle at all or have 20 or more sectors. We no longer distribute paper maps. And, the maps no longer become dated as they are updated by Google Maps constantly.

I am the regional CBC editor for Minnesota. I had been asking NAS to develop this capability for years. I finally figured out the procedures to allow us to do that in Minnesota and our compilers have been using the procedures for the last few years. We have automated the process in an easy-to-use app available for both Macintosh and Windows.

This is the map for my count circle: Cedar Creek Bog (MNCC). You can easily add a meeting location, or let Google Maps add gas stations, public restrooms, etc. You can map all of your personal counts circles. You maintain ownership of the map and you alone can modify it whenever you want.

We're charging a small fee to simply

cover the costs of distribution.
